After my second baby, I had a very low postpartum sex drive. My vagina was dry with just a little natural lubricant and sex did hurt, so I was a bit scared, even though the first 6 weeks after giving birth to my second baby had passed. I did a little research and talked with my doctor and the outcome was that – “this is all normal”, but surely, we (as a couple) need to put in a little effort to get back on track, so to say. 🙂
To help boost your libido, there are several natural aphrodisiac foods (Food for libido increase). Just be careful and consult with your doctor if you are still breastfeeding your baby as some of the foods may need to be avoided.
Maca root – boosts libido and reduces psychological symptoms
According to research by the School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Victoria University proves that maca root “reduces psychological symptoms, including anxiety and depression, and lowers measures of sexual dysfunction in postmenopausal women independent of estrogenic and androgenic activity.”
I like it in a smoothie with the following ingredients: banana, avocado, maca root (melted), blueberries and a bit of Kale (for increasing fiber levels) and adding some plant based milk. It’s tasty and has many ingredients for libido increase.
Saffron – improves libido and lubrication
The research of Infertility Ward, Arash Hospital proves that saffron “may safely and effectively improve some of the fluoxetine-induced sexual problems including arousal, lubrication, and pain”. This spice is often used as an alternative remedy to help treat depression, reduce stress and enhance the mood. Which in case of postpartum is also very important aspect. So I would say that this is one of the best food for libido increase.
Ginger – can help libido and sexual performance
Ginseng herb can help libido and sexual performance. Clinical nutritionist, Josh Axe, explains, “Ginseng likely affects the central nervous system, altering hormones in the process.” I use ginger a lot during the cold winter time – I add it in a tea together with a lemon and honey – it makes a perfect match also for strenthening imune system.
Avocados – most favorite food for libido increase
Avocados contain high levels of folic acid, vitamin B9 (which provides the body with more energy), and vitamin B6. Avocados are one of the most favorite food for libido increase and is highly recomended food for woman’s health.
Strawberries – heart-shaped tears of Aphrodite
While the legend says that strawberries originated from the heart-shaped tears of Aphrodite after she learned of her lover Adonis’s death, Dr. Hoppe says, “they’re loaded with vitamin C, which is important for the production of sex hormones and chemical neurotransmitters in the brain to increase libido. Plus, vitamin C can help keep your immune system up”. Try this Strawberry Avocado Spring Spinach Salad which Dr. Hoppe suggests.
Sex Board Game to boost libido
I made a game for couples together with my husband and honestly, this was also something that helped me to get back the sex drive after the second baby. In addition, when there are small kids in a family, time that you can spend together for each other as a couple has almost dissapearded. So this game is a great reminder about some important elements in bed that we forget during the daily hustle and bustle of life 🙂
